The past and people I feel are things we can all work with.
money dictates everything in a capitalist society, thus this image sucks.

Um, the word is resistance - a commitment that both acknowledges the omnipresence of capital in society, but also constantly struggles to carve out intellectual spaces for critique, awareness and social change. This image is everything, dear. Seriously.

What? Resistance isn’t in that image.
No. Okay, you missed the point.
The point here is that if you have a very small amount of money, or access to little of it, the system of capitalisim dictates exactly what you’re able to do. Consider: Making minimum wage and having rent, needing to eat, and paying a winter fuel bill.
In that situation, this person is directly controlled by money. Lifestyle changes are difficult for most folks who have small amounts of income. Poverty forces you to make choices that perhaps one would not make when not in a financially restrictive situation.
My point is that Not everyone has the choice to not be controlled by money. That is why this image is rude, insensitive and fails to encompass the fact that there are many people who CAN NOT “resist” or simply do not have the energy to resist because they have little resources to aid their life.
Tell your stories of resistance to people who are starving because they lack resources. Tell your stories of not being controlled by money to families who make choices between keeping the heat on and getting groceries in DECEMBER. Tell your stories of resistance to people who have never experienced poverty, because they will agree with you wholeheartedly because perhaps they are simply as ignorant as you are.
Tell your stories to people who aren’t me, because I damn sure know what poverty is.
I still don’t like the image, and the fact that it assumes that everyone has the CHOICE to not be controlled by money.
