… But over the past two seasons, it’s become impossible to escape the conclusion that Glee is an immoral show, but not for the reason cultural conservatives believe. It’s become a show that’s not just sloppy but exploitative and manipulative of serious societal issues and human experiences. And it’s time to walk away, even for hate-watching purposes … Glee, a show that claims credit for seeing clearly and portraying teenagers’ lives honestly, but that can’t acknowledge its own cruelty and manipulation of other people. It’s one thing for bringing the underexamined lives of gay teenagers, of abused women, of gay people of color into the mainstream of popular culture. But spotlighting them only to use their pain to accrue credit to yourself isn’t admirable. And it’s not entertaining.
Glee is fucking racist.
There, I said it.
I was having some issues with glee that I couldn’t identify, about a year or two ago. I was having issues with the fact that santana’s making out with britney, and then her being totally into dudes wasn’t being addressed nearly as LOUDLY as how kurt was a gay white dude.
The final straw for me with glee was the valentines day episode where kurt and rachel and the Asian girl who’s name I forget and the black girl, I know the actress’ name is Amber… they’re all hanging out, and have on PJs, and the black girl was wearing SOCK MONKEY PJS.
The other girls had hearts or some red and pink shit, but they put the big black girl in monkey pjs.
I’d had enough. You’re not going to only denigrate the experience of bisexuals, but subtly reinforce black people are apes sterotypes and get me to watch your fucked up show.
you know who the people are who like Scott Summers? Republicans.
That seriously explains so much.
OK, 1. I can't really say James Marsden is a douche. I'm sure he's probably a pretty swell guy. I'm not sure why I claimed this. Alcohol was involved at the time. 2. I'm very aware I'm in a small percentage of people who actually like Cyclops. Still gotta agree to disagree with you on that one. He definitely doesn't win the personality contest, I admit. 3. He's kicked plenty of ass with his powers. I know I'm not gonna sway you on hating him, which is fine, but theres plenty of pros to his cons
Yeah, I definitely agree that we disagree about how much Cyclops sucks.
You’re the Cyclops Lover who came to my inbox trying to convince me to like this character, so of course I’m gonna throw out all the stops.
I’m totally into giving things chances, and Scott Summers had plenty. I’ve hated cyclops since the 90’s. In the mid 2000’s I dated a guy named, no joke, Scot Simons (one addtional T & M removed for google indexing reasons). He LOVED Cyclops. I almost thought that he would show me the redeeming values to this character.
Nope, he turned out to be a massive tool, and merely reinforced his fellow Scott’s sucktatude.
My mind is made, but thanks for recognizing you’re not going to change my opinion, Cyclops lover.
Come on, take it back about Scott Summers. Just cause they got a douche to play him in the movies doesn't mean he's not an awesome character.
Oh, ho ho, you sound confused as to both my level X-Men aptitude, and loathing of Scott Summers aka Sucksclops.
Scott Summers is far from an awesome character, actor portrayal notwithstanding. Movies, comics, cartoons… he’s even annoying son of a soggy slice of white bread in VIDEO GAMES. He is a micro-managing, cheating, lame dude with a shitty superpower. He’s a leader who can’t lead without permission and is a general pain in the ass.
Someone on tumblr once said that people just hate Cyclops because he’s the leader of the group. Nope. Storm, Beast, Professor X and various other characters in that storyline have been In Charge, and at no point did I want to burn the comic I was reading because they were so terribly insufferable.
His girlfriend was essentially a god who’s main purpose was to destroy universes & die, and he was all woe is me about it. Meanwhile she’s going through existential and very tangible crises, her real friends are trying to help her, and he’s king of the pity party. Please. You want me to have a heart for that guy?
A country that could elect George W. Bush can elect a Rick Santorum.
Michael Moore (via brooklynmutt)
THANK YOU!!!! This. this right here is what im talking about. people keep focusing on what a batshit crazytarded fucked up misogynistic racist bigot rick santorum is… it doesnt matter how fucked up the candidate is. it matters how fucked up the voters are. and in case you forgot, this is america guys, A LOT of this country is pretty fucking sketchy beliefs-wise.
Oh my God, he’s right.
Consider this: The country that elected George W. Bush had Al Gore as the alternate choice.
The country that elected george w bush hadn’t already elected george w. bush, twice.
Also, I don’t think I live in a country filled with a true majority of people who actually voted for george w bush. I think I live in a country where the ELECTORAL COLLEGE voted for george w. bush.
No one is “Occupying Best Buy”. In a thousand cities across the world, people are Occupying public space in protest of vast income disparity and “shared sacrifices” being heaped upon the 99% while the 1% hide in the Manhattan penthouses sipping Dom and sniffing disdainfully at the protesting masses. These same people would hold their noses and smile condescendingly at “prospecting Occupiers.”
You have to be awake to Occupy. You have to be aware of the problems facing the People to Occupy. You have to be willing to sacrifice your personal property, your comfort, your clean arrest record, and even your health to Occupy.
Occupying Best Buy? I wonder if Sean is camping out at Best Buy to get a hard drive so he can get his computer working so he can apply for work. Does he even have unemployment benefits? Oh, I ask the wrong questions. Keep it cute, news media, and gloss over the deep despair that is being unemployed.
